If you already have trip data from previous trips, you can import them into Drive-Journal by preparing a file with the data and place it on the SD card of the device. The SD card directory should be
/sdcard/drive-journal/
. Note that you might have to create the directory first.

General

Independent of the file format, there are some constraints you need to understand for the import to be successful.

The trips must be sorted in date and mileometer order

The dates must be monotonically increasing

Each trip distance (i.e. the difference between the end and start mileometer values) must be greater than zero

The mileometer values must be monotonically increasing

Each trip must provide a date and start/end mileometer values. In addition it can provide information about the purpose, destination etc.

Trip Properties

A trip might contain any of the following fields/properties.

Name

Mandatory

Type

Description

date

YES

iso8601

The start date-time in iSO8601 format
(yyyy-MM-dd HH:mm)

mileometer-start

YES

int

The start value of the mileometer for the trip

mileometer-end

YES

int

The end value of the mileometer for the trip

duration

int

The duration of the trip in seconds

departure

tex

Place of where the trip started

destination

text

Place of where the trip ended

purpose

text

Reason for the trip

organization

text

Visiting organization/company (if applicable)

comment

text

Some extra text/info for the trip

XML Format

An import file in the XML format, must have the root node
trip-list
and contain one or more
trip
nodes. Each trip node a set of inner nodes, one for each property. The node name is the property name in question and the node content is the property value.

Here is an example XML import file:

<trip-list>
    <trip>
        <date>2011-07-01 10:00:00 CET</date>
        <mileometer-start>120000</mileometer-start>
        <mileometer-end>120010</mileometer-end>
        <destination>Stockholm</destination>
        <purpose>Meeting</purpose>
        <organization>Ribomation</organization>
    </trip>
    <trip>
        <date>2011-07-02 10:00:00 CET</date>
        <mileometer-start>120010</mileometer-start>
        <mileometer-end>120050</mileometer-end>
        <destination>Kista</destination>
        <purpose>Meeting</purpose>
        <organization>Emilsson</organization>
    </trip>
    <trip>
        <date>2011-07-03 10:00:00 CET</date>
        <mileometer-start>120100</mileometer-start>
        <mileometer-end>120125</mileometer-end>
        <destination>Linkoping</destination>
        <purpose>Training</purpose>
        <organization>Intromator</organization>
    </trip>
    <trip>
        <date>2011-07-04 10:00:00 CET</date>
        <mileometer-start>120130</mileometer-start>
        <mileometer-end>120150</mileometer-end>
        <destination>Infracity</destination>

        <organization>Foobar AB</organization>
    </trip>
</trip-list>

CSV Format

An import file in the CSV format must use semi-colon (;) as the field separator and the first line of the file be a header showing the properties used.

Here is an example CSV import file:

This version adds the ACRA crash report library. It will help us track down a few remaining bugs. Please, accept our apologies.

Whenever there (unfortunately) is an unexpected event (crash) ACRA will assemble a crash report and immediately send it to us, so we can investigate the problem and come up with a solution for an upcoming version of Drive-Journal.

What’s next?

The next feature, for version 1.3, will be a logical extension of the backup & restore functionality just released in version 1.2. It will be an ability to import a set of trips from a XML or CSV file on the SD card.

When you are new the app, you might want to test it out first. You can generate a few hundred fake trips to see how the app behaves without the burden of entering the trip data yourself.

From the MENU::Settings page you can choose MENU::Maintenance.

You will now see a page with several action buttons. Scroll down until you find “Generate Trips”. Note that this action is only enabled when the database is empty. When you choose this action, a few hundred trips will be generated together with a few expressions and variables.

You can always remove these trips by erasing the database. Just make sure you don’t have entered any real trips before wiping out the database.
